Newport · 52 Devon Place · seven days, by appointment

Chapter two for the seven-day practice, from April 2026.

Devon Place becomes fully independent on the first of April. Same bench, same Pentonville corner, same Sunday slot. Five GDC-registered dentists, an implantologist, two qualified hygienist-therapists, run today by Dr Rachael June Gill-Randall. The relationship with the NHS list ends, and the appointment can take as long as the appointment needs to take.

CHAPTER TWO · FULLY INDEPENDENT FROM APRIL 2026

The bench is the same. The Sunday slot is the same. The clock stops counting.

From April, Devon Place is a fully independent practice. Patients on the existing NHS list have a letter with their options: join the Devon Place Denplan care plan, or move to private fee-per-treatment with no monthly commitment. Either route keeps the same dentist, the same appointment slot, the same treatment history. The independent route was chosen so an appointment can take as long as the appointment needs, rather than the clock the NHS rota set.

Rachael bought the practice in 2007. She was a mature student at the University of Wales School of Dentistry, qualified 2004, and before dentistry she ran drug-biochemistry research at the same university. The seven-surgery layout, the seven-day opening, the BDA Good Practice accreditation and the Denplan Excel for Kids badge are all from her watch. The Quality Business Awards UK "Best Dentist in Newport 2024" sits on the wall by reception. The independent transition is the same instinct, eighteen years on. Same instinct, more room.

Recognized as the leading Dentist in Newport, achieving a quality score of 95%+ and representing the top 1% of UK businesses. Quality Business Awards UK, Best Dentist in Newport 2024
2004 Rachael Gill-Randall qualifies as a dentist, University of Wales School of Dentistry, mature-student route after a post-doctoral career in drug biochemistry.
2007 Rachael purchases the existing Devon Place premises. The trading company is incorporated 7 November 2007, renamed Devon Place Limited the following July.
2010 Seven-surgery layout in place. Reception Manager Jan Lear wins the Denplan national mystery-shopper telephone survey two years later.
2012 Liz Frankel joins as Practice Manager, formerly running a dental practice in Ascot with Dr Jon Frankel.
2017 Healthcare Inspectorate Wales registration. Aimee Harris joins as trainee nurse alongside her mother Andrea, on reception since 2008.
2024 Quality Business Awards UK names Devon Place "Best Dentist in Newport". Five GDC-registered dentists on the bench.
2026 Chapter two. The practice becomes fully independent. The bench, the building, the seven days, the principal, all continue. The NHS relationship ends.

Five dentists, one implantologist, three qualified hygienist-therapists, three senior dental nurses with cone-beam radiography certifications, and a Denplan-trained reception manager. Eighteen named professionals on a single Newport address. The bench has been deeper than the building suggests for years. From April, every appointment runs on that bench without an NHS clock behind it.

NERVOUS PATIENTS · A SPECIALISM, NOT A MARKETING LINE

Several testimonials on the practice site come from patients who had not been seen in years before they walked in.

Rachael personally takes the nervous-patient appointments. Before dentistry she spent years in drug-biochemistry research at Cardiff, and the unhurried, evidence-first manner that built carried into her practice. Dr Dorrel Gordon names dental anxiety as his own special interest, having trained as a dental technician before qualifying as a dentist at Bristol in 2006. The first appointment is a conversation. The second appointment is whatever the patient and the clinician agreed on the first.

  • First appointment is a conversation. No instruments out, no chair laid back, no surprise. Time on the diary for a clear conversation about what the patient knows about their teeth and what they want to change.
  • IV and oral sedation available. Rachael with Natalie or Sammy nursing. Both routes properly explained, both routes documented, the choice is the patient's.
  • Stop when you ask. A raised left hand stops the appointment. We do not negotiate that. The clinician steps back, the conversation resumes, and we restart only when the patient says so.

FAQ · FROM REAL PATIENT QUESTIONS

Five questions reception answers most often, with the April 2026 transition on top.

If your question is not in this list, phone reception on 01633 252238 or send a note via email.

I am on the existing NHS list. What changes for me in April 2026?

You will have had a letter from us with your options. The two routes are: join the Devon Place Denplan care plan (a monthly payment that covers examinations, hygiene visits, x-rays, and includes worldwide dental emergency cover), or move to private fee-per-treatment with no monthly commitment. Either way you keep your dentist, your appointment slots, and your treatment history. Phone reception on 01633 252238 if the letter has not arrived or the options need talking through.

Are you really open on a Sunday, and how do I book a weekend appointment?

On alternate Sundays, 10:00 to 14:00, by prior appointment only. Saturdays are 09:00 to 13:00 on alternate Saturdays, by prior appointment only. Weekdays are 09:00 to 17:00, with extra hygiene-only slots on Wednesday from 08:00 to 09:00 and 17:00 to 18:00 for working patients. The seven-day rhythm is the reason we are called what we are called. Phone reception or use the booking form to ask for a weekend slot.

I am genuinely terrified of the dentist. Which dentist should I ask for?

Dr Rachael personally focuses on nervous patients, and Dr Dorrel Gordon names dental anxiety as his own special interest. Several patient testimonials on the live site come from people who had not been seen in years before they came to Devon Place. The first appointment is a conversation, not a procedure. IV and oral sedation are available with Rachael, Natalie or Sammy nursing.

Can you really do a crown in a single visit, and what is CEREC?

Yes. Dr Rachael offers CEREC same-day crowns. The crown is designed at the chair using a digital intra-oral scan, milled in the laboratory on site, and bonded in place at the same appointment. Typically one and a half to two hours. Not every clinical situation suits a same-day crown, but the option is there. A traditional two-visit porcelain crown is also available from £760.

Where is the practice and where do I park?

52 Devon Place, on the corner of Devon Place and Pentonville, two minutes walk from Newport railway station. On-street parking around Devon Place itself, and a pay-and-display behind the building. If you bring proof of parking that lines up with your appointment time, the practice refunds up to £2.50 of the charge at reception.
